An American tourist in Russia
A Russian disinformation expert from a “Russian-Ukraine Disinformation Tracking Center” is reviewing the site for, ahem, disinformation. It’s been an interesting and cordial conversation so far, with some important points made. That’s why I decided to share it here for anyone else who might have the same questions. In the name of free speech I won’t disclose the name of the disinformation expert or the fact checking organization.
In March 2021 I declared that President Biden is destroying the US military, and offered some speculation as to why he would want to do that. Today, every military branch is gripped by a recruiting crisis, so apparently I was right. But I don’t want to gloat because the true answer is a bit more complicated than that.
Both “right-wing” and “left-wing” enthusiasts have this vision of a handful of billionaires controlling all of the news in the world. While there is some grain of truth to this, in the sense that politicians and rich people have certain narratives they want pushed, we are vastly overestimating how much these narratives are centrally controlled. Here’s why.
