In 2017, the Trump regime illegally withdrew from the nuclear deal with Iran. Now the Biden regime is trying to bring the deal back while being careful to not appear “weak.”
America’s president has a huge amount of unilateral authority. He can routinely pull out of binding agreements with other nations, and even start wars, without legislative approval. He can pretty much do whatever he wants. Effectively, the White House has a revolving door and American promises cannot be trusted. A deal made with one president has a good chance of being reversed after his opponent takes office a few years later.
Trump threw away an exceptionally advantageous agreement with Iran, and now Team Biden wants it back, but it’ll be an uphill battle. The Iranians insist that the USA removes at least some of the crippling sanctions against their country. Who can blame them? Iran has no reason to trust the USA. Only a crazy person would make more concessions at this point. Any new deal should have an immediate benefit to Iran, so they can at least enjoy it for a while before the next American president comes along and revokes the promise again.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has reportedly made some tiny concessions in an attempt to entice the Iranians. The USA has allowed a small amount of stolen Iranian funds to be transferred for debt payments to South Korea and Japan. How overwhelmingly generous. As of November 29, Biden submitted a waiver of Iranian sanctions for congressional approval (he previously approved extending the sanctions last Spring). The idea of being soft on Iran is particularly infuriating to American conservatives. Richard Goldberg accused Biden of “projecting weakness.”
Yes, life must be very confusing for Republicans. They apparently don’t understand the point of diplomacy. Why can’t the USA just be the new Nazi Germany? Why not exterminate all those troublesome inferior races and be done with it? What a mystery!
