Today we went to the local theater in Feodosia to watch the new Russian war movie Litvyak, a biopic of the most famous woman combat pilot in history. And, well, it was disappointing.

I just rewatched the classic historical 1966 movie A Man For All Seasons, and realized it has some crucial lessons for us in the 21st Century.

Before we got Gerard Butler as the bare-chested King Leonidus, we got him as the (still bare-chested) Attilla the Hun. Back in 2001, while everyone still had Rome fever from Gladiator, USA Network released Attila, which imagines a historical war as rivalry between two larger-than-life characters. The miniseries holds up surprisingly well 25 years later.

I just watched the 1983 BBC adaption of the 1847 novel Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Brontë. I honestly had not heard of this story until now, and Maria tells me I’m the only person on earth who hasn’t read it. Well anyway, here’s my review.
