With the power of 20/20 hindsight, the Soviet Union was not wrong, it was just too early. As we can see today, after more of the world market grew outside of the USA’s control, the rising tide lifted all boats. But just to be clear, the world grew more prosperous despite the USA, not because of it. With each passing year it becomes more difficult for the USA to economically smother countries they don’t like. It’s gotten to the point when any medium or large country, even if it’s very corrupt and incompetent, can still be prosperous as long as they have a sufficiently strong military to deter a US/NATO blockade. It also helps if they just have enough overland trade routes to make US/NATO blockades ineffective.
Yet at the same time, the world is the way it is because of the Soviet Union. Many nations around the world achieved their freedom from the boot of colonialism. Even the people of hostile western countries benefited due to the fear of communism. I think the only reason the western world isn’t already a sprawling Blade Runner-style ghetto with a handful of elites in floating palaces powered by orphan meat is because of the Soviet Union. Western elites were so scared of communist uprisings they begrudgingly allowed the masses a brief reprieve from slavery.
That reprieved ended when the Soviet Union did. American prosperity lasted about another 10 years on inertia over our treasonous demon-worshipping dysgenic elites started waging war on their own population.
Right now there’s a trend on Twitter of Americans posting photos of their lunches. I haven’t seen even one good lunch in my feed, it’s all slave gruel, literally worse than what people eat even in small underdeveloped countries. At this rate of decline, it’s not impossible that within five years Americans will be mixing their food with sawdust to avoid starving.

Perhaps the most insulting part is that Twitter is full of people insisting that the USA was always poor, and McDonald’s a luxury reserved only for the elites.

Incidentally, New York City is flooding from Spring rains because their drainage infrastructure is in advanced stages of decay, and only 19 cleaning trucks are still operational.

"Yet at the same time, the world is the way it is because of the Soviet Union." Exactly. Furthermore, the old Eastern Bloc in hindsight looks like a fairly normal and livable place unlike what we have today, and the Eastern Bloc of nowadays is still less fokked up than the West (especially the US). We clearly had had delusions about capitalism before what we now call "The Change of the System".
Counter Currents is a bizarre website that sometimes has good essays. This is one of them: https://counter-currents.com/2026/05/the-lunch-wars/
To be fair to our psychopathic overlords, since the industrial revolution started in 1750, world population increased tenfold, and it is estimated that a fifth of the Earth's fossil fuel reserves have been burned up. Worldwide light sweet crude oil production peaked in 2008. Something had to give, and a worldwide decline in living standards was inevitable. But instead of spreading the pain evenly, our psychopathic overlords increased their own wealth and brought in a police state:https://x.com/BraedenSorbo/status/2058750777145860306So there is still a lot to blame them on.
