Iran is a highly educated country governed by people who are educated in western political and philosophical history. And their opponents are people who are not educated at all. Trying to negotiate with Trump is pointless because he’s proven that negotiations are just an opportunity for betrayal and sneak attacks. Even trying to appeal to the American people is largely pointless, because most are too passive to pressure the government in a meaningful way, lack the moral sense to understand that senseless killing is bad, and also lack the imagination to understand hypothetical consequences of the war if it continues.
On top of that, the US is just not the same country it was in 2001. Roughly a third of the population are foreigners who literally do not care about US politics, and just want to milk the system as much as possible before it collapses. If you’re just milking a country for whatever you can get before going back home (or to a different affluent country you can milk) you’re not going to risk your neck speaking out against immoral wars. Quite the opposite, you’re probably happy that the media is distracted from your fraud. Notice how there is barely any mention of the Somali childcare scams anymore?
