So, we watched the Foundation series and I hated it.
I wanted to write a long review, but I suck at long texts. So here’s the verbal gist of my mental effort:
1. The show has no plot. It’s a zoomer ideal of a roller-scroller show where a clip comes after clip and a cinematic universe generates itself according to an endless script like a map in a video-game.
2. It has terrible visuals. I’d rather they filmed a wood in an actual wood, mountains in actual mountains, etc. I also think those who did CGI for the show charged per planet, because there are way too many planets in the show.
3. It’s too woke.
4. It has no moral. Characters that are meant to be complicated aren’t complicated, they just have no moral backbone whatsoever (same was true for the GoT, btw).
5. Dialogues that are meant to be smart were written by either AI or someone who is underpaid and cannot afford good drugs. They are just boring.
6. It has a weird amount of low-quality male nudity. Never in my life have I seen that many low-grade male butts, some old, some fat. Lee Pace’s chest was fine, tho.
Then, whenever I’m watching something shown to me, I always ask myself why it is shown to me, what the message is. Because there’s always a message and a purpose. Normally, there’s supposed to be some moral lesson or idea wrapped in a good plot, but… see above. Yet, this show has a terrible amount of genocides with whole planets just destroyed without anyone caring too much, there is zero respect for a human life and a not-too-subtle point that infallible robots are actually better than humans. They can also transition easily.
I’ve never checked who paid for the show, but whoever did it wants you to see no difference between pieces of CGI human flesh falling off a building in a movie and people killed in, say, Gaza. They want to stupefy your eyes and hearts to make sure you don’t react to yet another war somewhere at your doorstep. Keep calm and rely on ChatGPT while they destroy your future.

It’s entertaining, but it isn’t Foundation. The whole point of the books was that individuals don’t matter, only great masses of people do. Plus the constant subverting of expectations is tiresome, especially what they did with the Mule.
